Biography
In my research I focus mainly on gender, politics, food and eating, and popular culture. I conducted my fieldwork in Poland, Lithuania and Mexico. I received my PhD from the Graduate School for Social Research at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 2008. In my dissertation I analyse the construction of motherhood discourse and experience of being a mother in colonias populares of Mexico City. I was awarded research grants from the Mexican government (1999-2000, 2005-2006) and received the Norwegian Governmental Scholarship to be a visiting scholar at the University of Oslo (2006). I am the co-editor of a two-volume reader in gender and anthropology (Gender. Perspektywa antropologiczna [Gender. An Anthropological Perspective], co-edited with Agnieszka Kościańska). Currently, in collaboration with Dr. Elżbieta Korolczuk, I am editing a volume on motherhood in Poland entitled: Pożegnanie z Matką-Polką? Dyskursy, praktyki i reprezentacje macierzyństwa we współczesnej Polsce (Farewell to the Polish Mother? Discourses, Practices, and Representations of Motherhood in Contemporary Poland).
