Field Workshops at Bakalarska

On March 17, students from the laboratory group Work in the Name of the “Good Body.” Redefinitions of Beauty, Fitness, and Health Norms in Contemporary Culture took part in field workshops at the Bakalarska Market and in the Asian Town Bakalarska area.

We attempted to take a closer look at the beauty industry in this specific part of Warsaw — we visited Mr. Donald’s Barber Shop, Maja Nails salon, and Mr. Hoang’s salon. We managed to talk with the owners and their employees, as well as observe their work. This is only an introduction to researching various body-related practices in a multicultural space.

Our guide and interpreter was Ms. Diep Hoang. We would like to warmly thank her, the owners and staff of the places we visited, and our student Karolina Szymczak, who helped us find our way.
