The "Global Easts: Why It Matters" conference brought together researchers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, the UK and the USA. Together, we explored ways to research and teach about "Global Easts" — a region shaped by both shared historical trajectories and diverse, often divergent, contemporary dynamics.

On September 24, 2026, an open discussion was held, moderated by Zuzanna Bogumił and Iwona Kaliszewska [1] (University of Warsaw), featuring Jie-Hyun Lim (Sogang University), Catherine Wanner (Pennsylvania State University), Martin Müller (University of Lausanne), and Tomasz Zarycki (University of Warsaw).

On September 25–26, 2026, we continued our discussions and presentations in the closed-door sessions:

  • Panel 1: How Do Imperial Legacies Shape and Influence Global Easts?
  • Panel 2: Ethical, Epistemological, Political Considerations of Global Easts
  • Panel 3: Assessing Impacts of Geopolitical Changes on Global Easts
  • Panel 4: Pedagogy and Knowledge Production in the Global Easts
  • Closing Discussion: Gateways to Global Easts
