Sergio González Varela at the conference Innovating (trans)cultural studies through gift exchange

On July 17th in Heidelberg, Germany, as part of the conference "Innovating (trans)cultural studies and (trans)cultural history through the polyvalent concept of gift exchange. Revisiting Marcel Mauss's Essay on the Gift (1925–2025)," Sergio González Varela will present a lecture entitled "The Gift of Ritual Power: Exchange and Reciprocity in Afro-Brazilian Capoeira." The presentation will be part of the panel "Transcultural Ethnographies: Between Solidarity and Moral Economy," which will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
